# Completions (retired)

It was the legacy text-completion endpoint, which OpenAI also lists as legacy in its [Completions API reference](https://platform.openai.com/docs/api-reference/completions). Send the prompt as a user message to [Chat Completions](/api/chat-completions/) instead:

+ POST /v1/chat/completions  {"model": "...", "messages": [{"role": "user", "content": "Say hello"}]}
```

[Responses](/api/responses/) and [Messages](/api/messages/) accept the same models if your client speaks those APIs.
